Battle for Europe Mission Pack
by Cliff Burgess

This is a package of 46 missions for CFS3 which, if flown in chronological order, are meant to provide a mini-campaign which follows plausibly historical events. The missions trace the experiences of a hypothetical American pilot who starts flying with the RAF in the autumn of 1941, then transfers to the USAAF to fly spitfires, thunderbolts and mustangs based in Britain. The pilot's tour of active duty ends in the summer of 1944. The story is very loosely based on James Goodson's experiences in the RAF and in the 4th Fighter Group, as described in his autobiography "Tumult in the Clouds".

To fly the campaign, create a new pilot and fly the missions in chronological order.
There are two versions of the install program. One installs missions which only uses default planes as AI, plus the GC Bf110g2 and the avhistory B17g. The other installs missions which use only 1% planes and the GC Bf110g2 as AI. If you want to fly both, just run both installers.
The GC Bf110g2 is available at the Ground Crew site.
All of the 1% planes, including the B17, are available at the AvHistory site (http://www.avhistory.org). Many thanks to the people associated with Avhistory for providing these high-quality planes.

WHAT NEEDS INSTALLING:

There are missions, facility and spawn files, which are put into their proper places by the appropriate mission install program.

REQUIRED AIRCRAFT:

For either of the mission versions you must separately download and install the Bf110g2 from the Ground Crew site .

For either of the mission versions you must also separately download and install Herbie G's B17g mollie, 3us_b_17g from the WWII bomber list:

http://www.avhistory.org/scripts/Downloads3/downloadMain.asp?WW2Bombers/3us_b_17g.zip

For the stock mission version, those are the only additional planes you need.

If you wish to fly the Avhistory missions, you must also install a few more Avhistory planes, found at their site http://www.avhistory.org. The required planes are listed in the file RequiredAircraft.txt, included in this release. (You can find it in the folder GroundCrew\missions\4FG if you have used the installer.)

It is recommended that you also run the levelbomber installer program, which converts the avhistory 3us_b_25h and the stock b-25j into level bombers (instead of a dive-bombing tactical bomber), as was done for the stock b26g by the cfs3.1 patch. This keeps these planes from dive bombing from high altitude during their bomb runs.

TO FIND THE MISSIONS WHEN PLAYING THE GAME:

Go to the Missions tab, and select the Historical missions. The new missions will appear in chronological order among the missions listed, with names starting with 4FG. If you have installed both types, you can distinguish them by the "1%" in the mission title.

NATIONALITY EXPANSION PACK:

You won't need this pack for the stock missions, and possibly not at all since all nationalities involved are US, Britain and Germany. But the 1% mosquito is assigned the nationality "Canada" by avhistory, so you should get this package anyway if you wish to use add-on planes and scenery, since it is crucial for any missions/planes using non-stock countries. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

The missions are meant to be historically plausible, and as much as possible are taken on days when similar missions were really flown. Information on USAAF operations was taken from Air War Europa, which is a day-by-day chronology of USAAF activities in Europe and Africa, by Eric Hammel.

Very special thanks to Rob (exc141ac) for test-flying these missions and making many, many great suggestions for mprovements.

ENJOY!
